- This map shows
the counties of the United States where the natural environment is most desirable to live in.
- The scale was constructed by combining six measures of climate,
topography, and water area that reflect environmental qualities most
people prefer. These measures are warm winter, winter sun, temperate
summer, low summer humidity, topographic variation, and water
area. The data are available for counties in the lower 48 States.
- This map does not take into account human factors such as
education, health, crime, economic development or poverty. Also not
taken into account are specific landforms and attractions
- Thanks to David McGranahan of the USDA for compiling the data.
